WHO IS A REAL ESTATE SALESPERSON AND HOW
IS A SALESPERSON DIFFERENT FROM A BROKER

To get your Real Estate Salesperson license, you must work full time for a minimum of one year before you can obtain your broker's license. This work is done while associated with and supervised by a licensed RE broker who is your sponsor.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SALESPERSON LICENSURE ARE

  • minimum age of 18
  • demonstrate fair knowledge of the English language
  • complete a NY DOS approved 75 hour qualifying course such as given by Real Estate Academy
  • pass the Real Estate Academy qualifying course exam
  • pass the NY DOS licensing exam
  • obtain broker sponsorship
  • be in one of four citizenship categories:
    1. citizenship status
    2. permanent residency
    3. have a work authorization card obtained from the Immigration and Naturalization Service
    4. have a work permit obtained from your sponsoring employer
